What is Affron® and why does it matter?
Affron® is a patented saffron extract produced by Pharmactive Biotech Products, standardised to 3.5% Lepticrosalides®, the active compounds responsible for saffron's measurable effects on mood, focus, and sleep. It's the form used in peer-reviewed clinical trials, which means the results those studies found are replicable in our capsule. Generic saffron extracts have no standardisation benchmark with potency that varies batch to batch. Affron® doesn't. That's why we use it specifically.
Why only 28mg? Is that enough?
Yes. 28mg is the dose used in clinical studies on Affron® that demonstrated significant effects on mood and sleep. We didn't choose it arbitrarily and we didn't increase it to make the label look more impressive. More isn't always more.The research supports 28mg, so that's what's in the capsule.
What else is inside the capsule?
Rice flour and a hypromellose veggie capsule shell. That's everything. Rice flour maintains stability without affecting the active ingredient. We don't use silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, or any fillers added for manufacturing convenience. If it's not necessary, it's not in there.
Is this vegan and gluten-free?
Yes to both. The capsule shell is hypromellose and plant-based. No animal-derived ingredients anywhere in the formula. No gluten. No preservatives.
When will I notice a difference?
Saffron isn't a stimulant and doesn't produce an immediate effect. Clinical studies on Affron® typically show meaningful results after consistent daily use over four to eight weeks. The mechanism is cumulative, supporting serotonin pathways and cortisol regulation over time rather than spiking and crashing. Take it daily, at the same time, and give it the time the research shows it requires.
When should I take it?
Once daily, preferably with food. Timing is flexible, morning or evening both work depending on your primary goal. If sleep quality is your focus, evening is a reasonable choice. If mood and focus are the priority, morning works well. What matters most is consistency.
Can I take it with other supplements or medication?
If you're on prescription medication, particularly antidepressants, mood stabilisers, or sleep medication we recommend that you speak to your doctor before adding saffron. We're transparent about what's in this capsule precisely so that conversation is easier to have. We're not in a position to give medical advice, but we'd rather you ask than assume.
Why is there only one active ingredient?
Because one well-sourced, correctly dosed active ingredient outperforms a multi-compound formula built around the same active. Stacking ingredients can create interactions, dilute dosing, and make it impossible to know what's actually working. We want you to know exactly what's doing what and why.
How is this different from other saffron supplements?
Most saffron supplements use generic saffron extract with no standardisation. You don't know what concentration of active compounds you're getting, and it varies between batches. Some use raw saffron powder, which is even less consistent. We use Affron® specifically because it's the most clinically studied form available, standardised to a documented benchmark. The dose matches what clinical trials use. The other ingredients are minimal by design. Most competitors can't say any of that.
